1. The Seychelles are located in the Western Indian Ocean off the East coast of Africa just below the equator and North of Madagasar. Thier closest neighbours include Mauritius, Reunion in the Ocean, and Kenya, and Tanzania on the continent. Most of their territory is ocean, with only 115 tiny islands, three (3) of which are populated year round. To view Seychelles, use Google Earth. You may have to download it, but once you're finished, simply type 'Seycelles' in the search bar and watch as you fly across the globe and zoom in on the Inner Islands
2. The Seychelles has virtually no crime (3 murders in the past 3 decades), and virtually no harsh drugs. Island life is the modus operendi for most Seychellois, so conflict is rare quickly dissolved
3. Sunny Seychelles Vacations Inc. is an incorporated, home-based business operated from Vancouver, Canada. Beth & Daniel in Canada facilitate the booking of your vacation, while your owner and manager or your vacation accomodations can help to facilitate the daily activities of your holiday. All of us can offer service in French or English, and if you're patient, Beth can help in Spanish or German as well
4. When you book with Sunny Seychelles Vacations Inc, you are booking either an apartment or a guest house. We offer self-catered holidays with perks. This means there will be cooking facilities in every property, in addition to either the inclusion of your first groceries, or several meals throughout your stay. The number and location of properties represented changes due to season and volume of interest, though we try to maintain listings on each of Seychelles' three (3) main populated islands, Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue
5. Each accomodation has either a double-, queen-, or king-sized bed with linens, its own washer/dryer, 3-piece bath (including shower, toilette, and sink - though some properties have a bathtub as well), hot water, locking windows and doors, an oven, a refridgerator, a kitchen sink, table, chairs, utensils, and a balcony, patio, or veranda. In addition to cleaning and washing everything between guests and often during your stay, your property manager will also provide basic condiments like salt, sugar, pepper, soy sauce and dish & laundry soap, while some will provide your first meal after arrival. There are TVs (some with digital satellite, some with local television service), but no phone line, and one property offers internet. Ask your property manager to show you how to get a local number on your cell phone and to show you the nearest internet cafés. They can also provide any and all travel tips, advice, and help as requested. They will also arrange for your transfers to and from the nearest airport or ferry terminal
6. Any other type of accomodation in the Seychelles comes in the form of hotels and resorts, the cheapest of which on Mahé is over €100 per person per night for the most basic of rooms. The accomodations offered by Sunny Seychelles Vacations Inc. are totally unique and are all located in quiet residential areas on three different islands. There is no on-site bar or pub, but the type of integration into local culture simply can NOT be beat! Booking with Sunny Seychelles Vacations Inc. allows you the opportunity to actually live the local island life, something a hotel or resort could never offer! Visit VirtualTourist.Com, or Virtual-Seychelles.com for a comparison between your ideal home-stay getaway and the traditionally expensive hotel holiday
7. All properties are located no more than a 15 minute walk from the beach, though in most cases, the property is less than 5 mintes from the beach. They are nearby bus stops in either direction, grocery shops, internet cafés (if internet is not offered at the property), take-away shops, care or bike hire shops, and in some cases watersport rentals and/or golfing facilities. All properties are located within a 30 minute drive from the nearest airport or ferry terminal
8. The national currency of the Seychelles is called the Seychellois Rupee (SCR). It is currently approximately 9:1 against the US$, and about 11:1 against the Euro. Visit XE.Com, an online international currency converter to convert your country's currency into Seychellois Rupees. Simply click the "More Currencies Available" button to find Seychellois Rupees. You can purchase Rupees from any bank in Victoria against any majore currency (Pound Sterling, Euro, US Dollar are the most commonly and easily converted). You can also enlist the help of your property manager to exchange it for you upon arrival; they can get a better exchange rate for you
9. What types of items you buy will predict how far your money will go here. Imported items, such as yoghurt and some fruits will cost more. However, local items are much cheaper, like fish, pork, cinnamon and other local spices, that will only cost severl SCR. Rule of Thumb: if you stick to the corner store, which sells mostly local and cheap imported goods, your money will last longer than if you buy at the main grocery store in Victoria which specializes in imported goods. Souveniere items can vary as well. If you purchase something on the beach, expect to pay more than if you buy the same item at the tourist boutiques along Rue Albert in Downtown Victoria, the capitol city
10. The Seychelles runs electricity at 220V to 240V. The outlets are three pronged, like the style of UK outlets. So make sure to bring your converters and adaptors with you if you're bringing elecrical appliances or chargers. Remember: electronic devices like DVD players or large cameras designed for 110V - 120V should have larger, more reliable converters and adaptors than smaller items like coffee makers or hair dryers to ensure they survive the higher voltage
11. The Seychelles offer a variety of tourist activites including hiking, shopping, snorkling, SCUBA diving, windserfing, sea-dooing, kyacking, spa treatments, boat charters, care hires, bike hires, sunbathing, gambling, golf, restaurants, clubs, botanical and spice gardens, national museums and monuments, frequent festivals or parades, and much more. Helicopter Seychelles even offers scenic flights and heli golf at around €110 per person. There is also a house of worship for just about every majore religion, including a church for Catholic Mass, a temple for Hinduism, a Mosque for Muslim prayer, and a Sinagogue for Jewish services. And of course, your property manager will be more than willing to recommend activities or companies to make your stay that much more pleasureable. See the Sample Itinerary for an example of how you could spend each day of a 3 week vacation booking through Sunny Seychelles Vacations Inc.
12. The Seychelles boasts several large festivals each year. June, offers to most, including four public holidays based around religion and independence. For this reason, and the fact that June is actually the tourist industry's low season, June may actually be the best time to visit the Seychelles. Visit AfricaProfile.Com, otherwise known as 'My Face Your Face Every Face.Com' for a complete list of public holidays in the Seychelles, and up-to-date public and political affairs
13. There are several airlines which make daily or bi-weekly flights into and out of the Seychelles. They include Air Seychelles, British Airways, Air France, Condor Flugdienst, Kenya Airways, Air Emirates, and Qatar Airways. Direct flights are offered from Europe, the Middle East, and parts of Eastern Africa. If you're coming from further away than this, you'll have to book connections through one of these regions
14. The cars and the roads in the Seychelles are left-hand drive; they drive on the left side of the road and the driver sits on the right side of the car. Though automatic transmission has recently been introduced, almost all cars are still standard transmission, so you'll need to use your left hand to operate the gears. Almost 100% of the roads on all three major islands (Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue) are paved. The roads are narrow and wind through the mountains, so traffic moves slowly enough that there are very few accidents. There are very few places that are inaccessible by vehicle, and car hires are plentiful
15. The Seychelles main islands are located 4 degrees South of the equator hundreds of miles from any other land. This means that the weather rarely varies from 28 Celcius/84 Fahrenheit. During June, and February the island experiences the effects of the trade winds changing resulting in sporatic, heavy, 10 minute blasts of rainfall. Otherwise, the skies are clear or partly cloudy, so any time you come for your vacation \ in the Seychelles, pack for summer!
16. All three main islands (Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue) have very well-developed road systems and public transportion. On Mahé and Praslin, if you don't feel like walking, there will always be a public bus (SCR3 per ride), a taxi, or cars and bikes to hire to get you around. On La Digue, you can count the number of automobiles on one hand (four!), so the best ways to get around here are walking, bike hire, or traditional ox-cart taxis. Very Charming! To get from one island to the next, you can take a ferry with CatCoCo or a short plane ride with Air Seychelles. Service is frequent, reliable, and safe. Air Seychelles also offers you the opportunity to travel to more distant island and experience the natural wonders of giant lagoons, huge sea turtles, colonies of thousands of birds, and archipelagos of amazing beauty! Visit here for a comparison and schedule of all types of transportation the Seychelles have to offer
17. Renting a car costs about €45 per day and gas is about 12,50 SCR per litre. However, distances are so small across this tiny island (only 15 kilometers wide) that a car is not always necessary. Should you opt for the car, talk to your property mananger for a recommendation of the best company in their area. Parking on Mahé is becoming a bit of a problem with an increased number of cars, despite numerous public lots scattered across Victoria and street parking virtually everywhere on the island. Praslin, however, has not yet been affected by the increased number of vehicles
18. Booking a vacation with Sunny Seychelles Vacations Inc. costs €75 and €250 per night, depending on which propery holds your interest. We currently accept payment via a certified cheque or email transaction. Please see the Booking and Pricing page for more information, including Terms and Conditions
19. To get into the Seychelles, all you need is a valid passport, return air fare, and the contact information for your accomodations. Upon arrival, customs will give you a visa, usually for one or two weeks, and a departure permit. If you are staying longer than the time given on your visa, you'll need to visit immigrations at Independent House in Victoria to extend your visa to the length of your intended stay. This is never a problem but they require holding your passport for a week to conduct the paper work. The departure permit is your exit visa. Keep this with you for the duration of your stay. The Seychelles have no epidemics or wide-spread diseases or viruses of any kind. Unless you will be visiting another country before visiting Seychelles where this is the case, you do not currently need any vaccinations. In fact, the cabin crew of your flight will disinfect the passengers and their luggage just prior to landing on Mahé to ensure that you do not bring any foreign seeds or germs into this pristine island nation! If is alway advisable to speak with your health care professional or nearest Travel Vaccinations Centre to confirm this information, and visit the World Health Organization website for current health and sanitation information
